Touching Base

Hello, my long lost blog! No, I have not forgotten you…you are always in the back of my mind, nudging me to attend to you! ;)

All kidding aside…MAN has it been a LONG winter! I guess I should have just put up a “I’m Hibernating” sign for the winter because that’s pretty much what I do!
But now Spring has sprung and I’m waking up and getting into all of my typical “waking from hibernation” stuff! Which for me are two things, Skin Care and House Cleaning tools.

On the skin side…one day I received some random email, I can’t even remember who from now but it had an ad for Arcona Triad Cleansing Pads. Since I often stay up later than I should and to the point of being too tired to mess with cleaning my face, these snazzy pads caught my eye. And so the relentless researching began.  In late January I purchased Arcona’s Basic Five Aging/Environmentally Damaged skin type package.  You can also find this line at  Skinstore.com and Beauty.com, both of which I’ve ordered from. (watch for great sales at both)

Arcona Basic FiveAnd that’s where it all began. I’m a bit manic when it comes to anything I develop an interest in.  I loved this product and what it was doing for my aging skin but especially the fact that it was made with good ingredients that not only did no harm but was produced in a cold pressed fashion that sounded logically like a great idea.

So now that I was intrigued by the all natural approach,  that’s the direction my research took.  This is when I happened upon a website called  Truth in Aging.

Truthinaging.com is the brain child of a woman named Marta Wohrle.  If you would like to read about Marta and her thoughts behind her website you can do that here on her “about us” page.   Needless to say, I fell in LOVE with this website.  Marta and her team do all the research for me!  They investigate ingredients and they legitimately test and use different products so I don’t have to waste my own money doing  just that!  They also have their own store where they seem to try to carry what they can.  I haven’t purchased anything from there yet, though I’m about to order KaplanMD lip20 treatment in nude!  (because I would like my fuller lips back, thank you very much!)

I’ve been so pleased with the whole Arcona line, that I’m probably not going to stray too far for my basic skin care.  But Truth in Aging showed me how to find the right ingredients in skin care and what I wanted to stay away from and it seems like most anything you would ever want to know about that topic is there somewhere and you’ll more than likely find it by doing a search of the site.

So there it is. That’s what I’ve been doing for the past 3 months or so.

I’ve missed everyone in blog land and hope getting this post going today, I will get back to some resemblance of normalcy on this blog. I know most of my blog followers (if you’re still out there….;)  probably didn’t follow this blog for skin care, or makeup advice, but I think one of the reasons I’ve also not posted much is because my interest have been all over the place. When I started this blog, I actually did want it to be me. Not just cooking me, or decorating me…but “Me”.  Maybe if I start writing about what’s actually going on, in between “What’s for Dinner” I can find a happy medium in my blogging experience.

Next up….My Flylady Adventures!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

Ambers Black Rooster Cottage Blog, Christmas Giveaway

I have a Christmas cookie post to share with you, but gosh darn I’m just so busy and still haven’t gotten the photos off my camera. But my blogging friend Amber is having a wonderful Christmas giveaway on her blog that will be ending soon, so I wanted to send out a quick post about that! I love the pillows that she is giving away and thought about a few of my readers as well when I saw them! So if you’re interested, hop on over there and take a quick peek!
The picture is a link…;)

The winner will be chosen Christmas morning, so don’t dawdle! (Sorry I’m so late sharing this info with you)

First Snow

Let me start off by saying, as a rule of thumb, we don’t get “measurable” snow on a regular basis around this area, so we tend to get a little excited over the white stuff! We do get snow every year, though seldom this early and it’s always a surprise when it doesn’t miss us! Well…It didn’t MISS us this time! It is only around 2 1/2 inches but it’s just stunning!! Beautifully white and fluffy, and the sort that you can just brush off your drive!

The birds are just going wacky and I just had to catch some of them in action! All of these photos were taken from inside because gosh darn it, it’s COLD out there!

You think he spotted me? ;)

Althea’s loving it!

Hope you all are having a most joyous day, whether you have some of the white stuff or not!

Christmas Time Mantel

Probably like the rest of you, I have been busy decorating the house for the season! I can remember in years gone by this time before Christmas just dragging by…s.l.o.w.l.y….! Where did those days go? Now days, time seems to fly right out the window. . . . → Read More: Christmas Time Mantel

Maybe Not So Daring…

I promised a peek at the new rug, which I called “daring” in my last post. However, after living with it for a week or so, I’ve decided that probably no one else would consider it daring and that I have just become boring and non adventurous! . . . → Read More: Maybe Not So Daring…

Winters Winds Are Blowing In…Sort Of

It’s so hard to believe that Thanksgiving is already here, with the Christmas season just beyond. Where the heck did this year go? Anyway, today we were blessed with temps in the 70′s but with the promise of thunderstorms dropping the temperatures to more seasonal levels overnight. I thought what better time than now to get out and get the roses trimmed back so they won’t be whipping in the wind as winter creeps in. . . . → Read More: Winters Winds Are Blowing In…Sort Of

Through Jack’s Eyes

Every so often Jack commandeers my camera. I admit to deleting many of the photo’s he has taken over time because usually they are just blurry or dark or an image of something that is unrecognizable. But over the past few months, I’ve stopped deleting many of them and instead have created a folder where I keep just the photos he has taken. . . . → Read More: Through Jack’s Eyes

Baked Lemon Tilapia with Sauteed Swiss Chard

I’m not terribly fond of fish, but am aware that it would be a good thing for it to be more prominent in our diet, so I went searching for fish recipes recently and came across this one . . . → Read More: Baked Lemon Tilapia with Sauteed Swiss Chard
